Is reddish-brown discharge normal after my dog's spay surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 4 months old | 56 lbs

My pitbull got spayed AND an abortion on May 8th. Now she just started to have a vaginal discharge that is like a reddish brownish color. Shes not showing any bad signs or doesn't appear to be in pain. But im still concerned. Is this normal?! Should I rush her to the emergency vet, or is it something that can wait till the morning??

It doesn't require an emergency visit but it isn't normal either that long after a spay, it's probably an infection and it will need to be treated with an antibiotic course, you should try and make an apointment with your vet in the next couple days if possible.
