Why is my dog shaking with diarrhea, gurgling stomach, no appetite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Male | neutered | 10 years and 1 month old

My dog has had diarrhea, not much appetite but will eat ham and drink water. I can hear his belly gurgling at times and he seems to be shaking.

Diarrhea and inappetence are quite aspecific signs and there are many different causes. Dietary indiscretion, infections (bacterial, viral or parasitic), inflammatory conditions (i.e. IBD), and neoplastic diseases are some of the possible causes. Sometimes an upset tummy can be mildly painful especially if you hear, as you reported, some "gurglings" and could explain the inappetence. I would avoid ham if possible and start Nickolas on a bland diet (boiled chicken and rice). If his diarrhea is still present in 12-24 hours or he starts vomiting or getting lethargic I would have Nickolas checked by your veterinarian.
