My cat won't eat her food and is losing weight. What can I feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 3 years and 1 month old | 10 lbs

My cat jaggy has not yet gotten better or made any changes in her appetite... At times she likes eating raw meat? Sometimes cold or warm but she doesn't eat cat food what's so ever. She's losing a lot of weight and I don't think she's going to make it if I don't get her to eat? What could I feed her that she may like or prefer more?

Sorry to hear that Jaggy isn't thriving. Three years old is very young to be losing weight and refusing to eat. I would be more worried about why this happening than trying to get a food that she likes. Causes of weight loss in a young cat can include pancreatitis, lymphoma, gastrointestinal parasites, various immune-mediated disease, and stress. I would speak to your veterinarian about obtaining some lab work including analysis of the blood, feces, and urine. This will be a good starting point. In terms of foods that Jaggy may not be able to resist, Hill's makes a prescription diet called A/D. It is very high fat / high calorie and is designed for animals that are extremely ill and in need of immediate nutritional supplementation. Your veterinarian should be able to get you some cans of this. It is important that Jaggy does not go too long without eating, since after several days cats can develop fatty liver syndrome. This can be life-threatening if it goes unaddressed.
