My kittens ate human pills and are now lethargic. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 17 days old | 5 lbs

My 3 kittens may have ingested up to 90 mgs of Lorazapam/Ativan. Earlier today they were acting "goofy" but now they are lethargic. What should I do ?

0.125mg/lb (0.25mg/kg approx) is the recommended upper dose so some severe and possibly life threatening sedation could potentially occur. I would recommend getting them to an emergency vet for supportive treatment and monitoring until they can clear the drug out of their system; iv fluids, maintaining body temperature and possibly the administration of an antidote may be required
