Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

stray cats living around my apt-have some type of infection or disease which affects the eyes ( squinting: blinking), and Also seem to be weak. First cat disappeared after I saw it appear to be ill; I assume it died. Now a second cat has one half-closed Eye. What illness might this be?

Hello. I am sorry your Stray Cat isn't feeling well. There are MANY different possible causes of this. There are many viruses which could cause this (herpesvirus, calicivirus, coronavirus and Feline Infectious Peritonitis, FIV, FeLK, etc). Also, bacterial infections could cause what you are describing as well. It sounds like your little stray is hurting though, and squinting is a sign of pain, and weakness is a severe sign. I would suggest taking your stray cat to the vet, either as it's owner and having him treated, or if you financially do not want to take responsibility you can bring the cat to a vet and drop it off as a stray. They will treat if possible and have the little cat go to a place where it can be found a good and loving home. Good luck with your little one, but either way I would strongly recommend bringing it to a vet as it sounds like it is very sick.
