Why is my dog's leg limp and paw bent after surgery, X-rays clear?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 9 years and 6 months old

My chocolate lab who is 10 in october starting limping and moaning about 5 weeks ago with his right leg. it was a very slight limp. the vet took xrays and whilst under took a little lump out of his head and a fatty lump from his chest. after the op, he has not been able to pump any pressure on his right leg at all and his paw is bent over and limp. the xrays didn't show arthritis or any issues in the lower spine, knee or hip ... what is next?

Ouch, poor Archie. It might be time to look into neurologic testing, or talk to an orthopedic specialist. They may recommend additional tests such as CT or MRI to see if the cause behind his lump can be found if X-rays didn't show anything. A follow-up with your vet and recommendation to a specialist is the next best step to take.
