My cat has raised black spots in his nostril. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

Yesterday I noticed that my 2 year old cat has developed some small black spots around the inside of his right nostril. They looked almost like dried blood, so I thought that his brother had scratched him during one of their numerous, "chase you around the house and tackle you" fights. They haven't gotten any better though, and I noticed tonight that they are slightly raised. I am wondering whether I should take him into my vet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

A check up, appropriate disinfection and eventually antibiotics are ideally needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
