My 9-year-old cat is lethargic, not eating after vomiting. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Wirehair | Male | neutered | 8 years and 10 months old | 22 lbs

I have a cat about 9 yrs old. 3 days ago he had diarrhea once and vomited after that he was good. But for last 2 days he spends more time sleeping and doesn't eat as much unless I bribe him with treats. He hasn't pooped as much and I'm assuming that's because he is not eating as much. About 5 months ago I took him to the vet, got all the blood work plus his yearly dental done. He is purring and drinking water and little change in his behavior. What should I do? Please advise!!!

I'm sorry Angel has been sick lately! He could still be experiencing some stomach upset from the vomiting and diarrhea, and I would try offering him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. If he eats that regularly, then I would slowly add back in his normal diet. Should he continue to be lethargic or refuse to eat the bland diet, then I would have him seen by a vet.
