What joint supplement is best for my tripod cat after amputation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 8 lbs

I have a 3 legged cat and am wondering what the best long term joint supplement would be to help support his one back leg? He is 2 years old and it's only been 5 months since his amputation surgery. He is very active now, I am just hoping to prevent issues that I know will come later on in his life.

Many tripod kitties lead perfectly normal lives without any problems at any point. It's great that you are planning for the future and watching out for Jax's health. The absolute most important thing you can do for him is to keep his weight at a very low and balanced level. I like to recommend to clients to keep their three legged cats / dogs on the thin side of normal. Your pets may not like it, but it is definitely for the best. I am not telling you to starve Jax by any means, just make sure that you never have to ask yourself "Is he looking a little chubby". If you are asking yourself that, then it is probably time for a diet. As far as supplements, there are dozens and dozens of joint supplements available. You can ask 20 different vets an get 20 different answers as to which is the best. The one I would use with my own cats is this: https://www.chewy.com/nutramax-welactin-feline-omega-3-cat/dp/101462 It's nice because you just just put it on their food and they usually love it. Hope this helps and good luck with Jax.
