Why are my cat's liver levels high? Is new food or herbs to blame?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2.9 lbs

My cat had a rough day yesterday. We started giving her a new food about 7 days prior, but did not wean her into it for a long period of time. Yesterday she would eat ravenously and then throw it all up...she did this 5 times. We took to vet and her liver levels are elevated. She has been on some strong herbs for cataracts. A few weeks ago her liver levels seemed elevated at that constipation time. Can a food that is not agreeable cause her to have elevated liver levels???

No it would be highly unlkiley that a food intolerance would cause elevated liver levels - especially when they were elevated even before you changed the diet. I would recommend getting a veterinary herbalist to review all of the herbs to ensre nothing here could be causing the inflammation as well as further investigation such as ultrasound and possibly biopsy.
