Why are my 8-week-old kittens' throats red? Virus or bacteria?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Birman | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 25 days old

I have a litter 8 weeks old kittens, they are red in the throat, no other symtoms, for a few months ago i had a litter with the same problem but they were much worse. slow, dehydrated, small size, red throat. but with an antibiotics cure they went well and today they all are healthy happy cats. what is it a virus? what kind? or a bacterium?

It is more likely to be a viral infection with a secondary bacterial co-infection. Antibiotics probably helped the immune system to get rid of the signs. Possibly herpes virus or calicivirus might be involved.
