Why is my cat peeing very often and has pink urine? Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 lbs

Hi my cat smokey, had him for 10years, but found him as a stray as a grower cat. We really don't know he's age, I guess.. today he has been in the litter box very often, I'll say every 10 mins to the hour. Then he sleeps for an hour then back in he's tray.. the urine has a slight pink tinge.. worried mother

Smokey may have a urinary tract infection or a blockage. This is an emergency. Please take Smokey to your vet who will determine whether there is a blockage of his urethra that prevents him from emptying his bladder properly. This can be caused by crystals or mucus or cell debris. If he is blocked he will need to be hospitalised, be put on iv fluids, and needs a urinary catheter after unblocking to enable flushing of the bladder and enabling urine flow. Please take him to a vet now.
