Why is my dog vomiting repeatedly but still eating and acting normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 2 years and 11 months old | 19 lbs

My bichon poodle is vomiting with retching around midnight the past few nights. Then he re-eats it before I can get up to clean it all and then he goes back to sleep. He is also doing this sometime during the day while I am at work as I have seen vomit stains on the towel in his room. The vomit smells like his food and is not bloody or anything. His poop is normal and he is still eating normally.

Oh no, poor Gus! He could be vomiting due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. Given that he has been vomiting for a couple of days now, it's time to see the vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing his vomiting and how best to treat it. I would withhold food until you get him into the vet in the morning, but he can have water.
