My bird is losing weight, not eating, and acting strange. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 2 months and 11 days old

Blue has already lost some of his weight. He's trying to fly and won't stop at all and he's also not eating much. He doesn't like his Handfeeding formula and he runs away if he sees it. I gave him banana and he showed interest in it but that too he ate very little. I am getting worried. He screams loud if he's locked in his cage and if he's open he is quite and he sits on his stand and will sit there for hours and will call anyone he sees. What should i do? Ideally, Blue should be seen by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating birds to diagnose illness or injury. You may need to force feed him if he continues to not eat and lose weight. If you don't have experience force feeding or syringe feeding, contact your vet or local breeders who may be able to teach and assist you. Keep a variety of foods available at all times. This can include a seed mix, millet sprays, commercial pellets and a mash made from the hand feeding formula. Keep him warm and as stress free as possible.
