Puppy teething: Is bleeding normal? What else should I expect?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 4 months and 26 days old | 68 lbs

My puppy is 5 months old and is teething and I assume it is normal that his mouth is bleeding but I just wanted to check on and make sure. He was playing with a soft toy earlier and brought it to me with blood on it. There is even more with tougher toys. Is this normal? What else can we expect as he goes through this stage? Thank you for the advice!

As he loses his baby teeth, the gums will bleed. When he plays with his soft toys, some of that blood will obviously show. Unless there is a lot of blood and the bleeding does not stop within a reasonable time, I suggest you take Cedric for a quick check up making sure all is normal.
