My senior dog is frequently throwing up. What can I do before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

Over the past week my dog has had 3 episodes of regurgitation. She is a Lurcher nearly 13yrs old. She has had dental surgery approx. 2 months ago and was treaded for a uti about a month ago. She is not lethargic, seems her normal self except to the regurgitation, no signs of bloating, lip smacking, gums are pink. I am making vet appointment nxt week, but just want to know if anything else I can do in meantime. She regurgitated tues, fri and again today. Since Friday had eaten rice +fish/chicken

You could try feeding more frequent small meals of canned food in an elevated position - try getting her to put her front legs on a chair while eating. If her appetite is decreased or she has trouble breathing let your vet know - they may recommend trying to come in sooner.
