How to know if my newborn kitten is healthy after a sibling passed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 9 lbs

My cat gave birth 3 days ago to two kittens. She just cared for one kitten since then itself. The one she didn't care for didn't eat or move around like the other one. Today it died. I am worried about the other kitten. It eats and crawls and cries abit too and has bright pink nose. How would I know if it's healthy or not?

The queen obviously knew that the kitten that died was not healthy and therefore did not care for it. This is how nature makes sure valuable resources are not wasted and the healthy kittens get the care they need. If the other kitten suckles regularly and its mother takes care of it by cleaning it, and purring to it and warming it, all should be well. If you are worried you should take its mother and the kitten both to a veterinarian for an exam to make sure the kitten has no congenital defects and is thriving.
