My rescue cat leaves food in his bowl. Does he feel secure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

Lio was a stray found at 6 months we brought him in and noticed he would gobble up all his food to oblivion and even after finishing his bowl he would steal our older cats food too. Now he is one year old and we notice he calms down even leaves some of his food in his bowl for later. Does means he feels more secure

It means that he is realising that he does not have to eat all his food fast and steal more as he is being fed regularly and does not have to fight for his food or go hungry, like he may have had to while a stray. He is indeed beginning to feel at home and more secure! Give him lots of TLC.
