My cat still has fleas after PetArmor. Can I reapply it safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

So about a week ago I gave my cat petarmor flea killer liquid stuff on his skin to kill his fleas. I found some dead but today I saw one alive! Is it a bad idea to give him another round of petarmour? Or do I have to wait till the end of the month when there are more fleas and try again? Please help!

In order to get rid of all the fleas you will also need to vacuume your house often including upholstered furniture and carpeted and uncarpeted floors. Put flea powder in the vacuum cleaner bag and discard the bag outside in the trash. This will hopefully remove larvae which live on house dust as well as flea eggs. For every flea you see on your cat, there are at least 10 more fleas in his environment. You can reapply the petarmor in a few days. Make sure it is the preparation for cats and make sure to apply it on the skin between the shoulder blades after parting the hair. Unfortunately, there are fleas that are resistant to fipronil, which is the active ingredient of Petarmor.

The problem with Petarmour is that it isn't a very good quality flea treatment program, and will not be as effective as the flea treatment programs you can get from a vet's clinic. Unfortunately, it's not safe to reapply Petarmour for 30 days, but you can give Kevin Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and it's safe to give him now. After 30 days, I would give him Revolution or Advantage, as those are much better quality and more effective flea treatments for cats. Don't forget you need to disinfect the environment as well. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.
