Why does my cat breathe loudly but seems perfectly healthy and normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 15 lbs

My cat makes weird noises when she breaths it's been this way since she was about 6 months old she acts totally normal and doesn't seem sick but I just wanted to know what it might be she isn't or hasn't ever acted sick in any way I've never had her vaccinated shes an outdoor cat the reason I haven't had her vaccinated is because I have so many cats the cost of food alone is expensive but they keep the mice out of the horse stables so there very useful

Your cat could have a mild upper respiratory infection that she acquired from birth or as a kitten resulting from not being vaccinated. This is very common in cats. The only way to know for sure would be to do infectious disease blood work at your veterinary clinic. If it is a mild infection like feline herpesvirus, she may not show any symptoms except for occasional sneezing and loud nasal breathing noises like what you're hearing.
