My cat has tapeworm. Can it spread to my family, clothes, or carpet?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 7 lbs

My cat has tapeworm and I have a lot of people who live in my house as well as a 3 year old I'm trying to make sure the tapeworm is contained and not spread to anyone how infectious is tapeworm? Can it live clothes or in carpet?

Oh no. Well he good news is that Tapeworms are only infective if they are alive and wiggling around. Once that are dead they are no longer infective. Good hygiene practices (washing hands) is generally enough to avoid being infected with them because they have to be digested for transmission.

    Cats acquire tapeworms by ingesting fleas which are an intermediate host. For a person to become infected he or she must accidentally swallow an infected flea. You should inspect your cat for fleas and then treat both the cat and your house for fleas.
