Can I give my cat Benadryl for itching while he's on Prednisone?

My cat was seen by our vet 10 days ago for his recurring FIV issues. He had 2 skin lesions and which tested for eosinophilic granuloma. He was given a Covenia injection and prescribed a course of Prednisone. As the scabs are now healing, he has begun itching them again and made them red and sore.
