Why does my dog bite his penis after peeing? Is he itching or in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 10 months old | 7 lbs

After I take my dog on his usual walks to use the bathroom, he always bites his penis and chew on it, I've noticed bruising before and started paying attention to him and noticed he is bitting it a lot as if it is itching him. And sometimes it'll be red marks there. And it's always when he goes to the restroom

Poor Prince! He sounds like he's quite uncomfortable. If he's licking and chewing after he pees then he could have a urinary tract infection, prostate infection or cancer, kidney infection, or bladder stones. The best thing to do is to book him into see your regular veterinarian. They will be able to do an exam, a urinalysis and possibly X-rays or ultrasound to figure out why Prince is so uncomfortable.
