Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 2 months old | 50 lbs
My dog today has been dripping blood from his penis. He won't stop and I don't know what's wrong with him. I gave him water and food so he won't pass out from the loss of blood. Do you know what cann it be? I'm going to take him today to the vet but I would like to know what things it can possibly be... He is a 7 year old pit bull lab mix :(

Oh no, poor Chucky! I see that he isn't neutered, and a common cause if bleeding from the penis in intact dogs is prostate problems. These prostate problems include prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and prostate cancer. Other causes include injury to the penis, blood clotting disorders, UTI, and bladder stones. I would have Chucky seen by a vet today for this problem so it can be diagnosed and treated. If he does have a prostate disease, neutering him is part of the recommended treatment.

Poor Chucky! It's good that you're taking him to the vet today, since this definitely needs to be checked out. The most common cause of blood dripping from the penis in an older intact male dog is an enlarged prostate - if this is the problem, neutering will usually resolve it. Other possibilities would include bladder stones, a tumor in the bladder or prostate, or a systemic bleeding disorder of some kind. Your veterinarian can do x-rays and/or ultrasound to evaluate Chucky's bladder and prostate to help determine the problem, and will discuss treatment options with you depending on what is found.

Poor Chucky! Blood dripping from his penis could be bloody urine from a urinary tract infection, signs of bladder stones, prostate infection/inflammation, blood clotting disorder, benign or malignant masses, among other causes. Your vet will likely discuss performing a urinalysis, abdominal x-rays, or blood testing to try to determine the cause of bleeding. I hope that Chucky is on the mend soon!

Poor Brody! I see that he is not neutered. The most common cause of blood dripping from the penis in an intact male dog is an enlarged prostate - if this is the problem, neutering will usually resolve the issue. Other possibilities would include bladder stones, a systemic bleeding disorder, a bladder or prostate tumor, or some type of injury to the penis. I would recommend taking Brody to the vet for an exam when you are able to. He/she can do x-rays and/or ultrasound his bladder and prostate to help diagnose the problem and make sure that he is treated appropriately.

I’m sorry that Shadow is having a problem. This is most likely not related to the neuter surgery. That surgical procedure does not invade the bladder or urethra. Shadow should see a veterinarian for an exam, urinalysis and possibly an X-ray of his lower abdomen. The potential causes for frank blood from the penis are a urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine, bladder stones or some type of trauma to the oenis. Occasionally, dogs can have a small growth inside the prepuce or penis that will bleed. I cannot correlate this dripping blood with a castration surgery . Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
