My senior dog started having seizures and head pressing. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | spayed | 10 years and 3 months old | 80 lbs

10yr old female boxer started having what seems to be mini seizures. The last time it happened she kept pressing her head into my lap. When I rubbed her head she kind of fell over/partially passed out. When I stopped she kept pressing her head into my lap/hands while she shook and she whimpered. She has a check up scheduled in 4wks. I've heard seizures can be a senior thing. Should I be really worried? No diet changes, toxins or xylitol. Just started couple of wks ago. Has happened maybe 5 times

She really does need some investigation into what is going on. If toxins can be ruled out and there hasn't been a traumatic injury to the head it is most likely going to be a central nervous system lesion. Unfortunately this is normally a brain tumour or similar. Epilepsy is still a possibility but rarely occurs in older dogs. I would recommend seeing your vet as soon as possible so they can start with some blood tests and take their investigations from there. Fingers crossed for you.
