My 5-month kitten is lethargic and not playing. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Scottish Fold | Female | 5 months and 20 days old

Is it normal for my usually playful 5 month old female kitten to lay around and sleep all day. She is usually playful and LOVES to play but for the past few days, all she does is lay around and/ or sleep. She also rejects me when I try to pet her sometimes and barley puts in any effort to play when I give her toys to play with. This behavior actually started when I had some renovations done to the house about a few days ago. Is this behavior normal or should I be worried.. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!

For sure - this is definitely not normal behavior; as you have said before Cutie is normally playful and active. Unfortunately lethargy is a very general sign of many diseases, and it's unlikely that we will determine the cause of her signs or what to do about this here. I would definitely say that you should be worried, as this has been going on for a few days. Cutie needs to be seen by your vet for an examination and likely some testing, including blood work and possibly x-rays, depending on what other symptoms there are (fever, pain, for example) and the results of the physical exam.

Cutie needs to be seen by your vet immediately, as it's not normal for a kitten this young to cease to be playful. Even though there was some work being done to the house a few days ago, that's not cause for her to be this lethargic, Unfortunately this is a very non-specific sign, so she needs to be examined and have testing done to determine what is wrong.
