My rat is peeing blood and his penis looks red. What should I do?

My rat Meeko started peeing blood this morning/last night. We woke up and when I checked on him his towel that he sleeps on had multiple blood stains. I thought that maybe he got hurt cause one of our cats snuck in the room last night but he didn't have any other marks on him. When we looked at him we noticed that it looked like the area by his penis was red. About an hour ago we took him out of his cage, and he peed on the bed, but he was still peeing blood. I don't know whats wrong with him.

Hi there! That sounds like a worry for sure! I wonder if he could have a bladder infection, or, like you said, maybe some sort of a trauma. It would be a great idea to have him checked out by your vet to see if he may need some medication?

Meeko should be examined by a veterinarian experienced in treating pocket pets. He may have a urinary tract infection, impaired kidney function or a mass/tumor. A complete exam, blood work, urinalysis and possibly x-rays may lead to a diagnosis.
