Is it safe to stop my cat's mouth infection antibiotics early?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 15 days old

I foster a 3 month old former street cat in a developing country. My vet said she has calici virus and secondary mouth infection (bad). He prescribed augmentine and amrizole orally every 12 hours for 10 days. After 4 days the cat owner took her to her own vet, who made the same diagnosis but gave her an antibiotics shot (I don't know what), and told her to stop the antibiotics. The cat is now back with me and I don't know what to do. Is it safe to interrupt the 10 days treatment after 4 days?

This depends on what the injection was - there are a number of long acting antibiotic injections which provide 3-10days antibiotic cover - without knowing what she was given and any improvement in her condition it is impossible to discuss in any detail.
