Can my cats catch Mycoplasma felis from my clothes or playdates?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

How does mycoplasma felis transfer between cats? I have a friend who has a cat that was tested positive for the virus, they had a couple of weeks treatment with some antibiotics (doxy-something if i remember correctly) and now the virus is supposed to be gone. Lets hope so but if its still there, is there any risk that my cats might get infected via my clothes or something from me visiting that friend? And how safe would it be to set up a "playdate" with the cats?

This is a blood borne parasite which attacks the red blood cells, it can be spread by biting parasites such as fleas and lice and I would not recommend a play date until at least 8weeks and ensure to keep all cats up to date with flea treatments
