My cat vomits food/hairballs often but acts fine. Sensitive stomach?

Hi. So my cat has been vomiting large amounts of liquid sometimes with food left over or a hairball. He acts fine, eats, uses the litter box, nothing is out of the ordinary. We tried sensitive stomach food and hairball food. The hairball food works slightly only he still vomits. Does he just have a sensitive system?

Poor Ulli! There are actually quite a few different things that could cause chronic vomiting issues like this. Some possibilities would include a food allergy or intolerance to something in his diet, a chronic GI problem like pancreatitis or inflammatory bowel disease (even he isn't having diarrhea), or even a systemic illness like hyperthyroidism. I would recommend taking Ulli to the vet for an exam to discuss this issue when you are able to. Your veterinarian may recommend some lab work and/or abdominal x-rays to check for problems. Depending on what is found, treatment options that may be helpful for cats with chronic vomiting like this would include feeding a prescription hypoallergenic diet like Hills z/d or Purina HA, or treatment as-needed with medication such as oral prednisone or an anti-nausea medication like Cerenia.
