My puppy vomited and is lethargic after shots. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 19 days old | 9 lbs

Niko just got his second round of puppy shots + dewormer about 48 hours ago. Our vet said to watch for any adverse reactions. So far he just been somewhat lethargic but everything else seems okay. However, yesterday he vomited after dinner (more than 24 hours after the shots). It was almost whole bits of kibble which leads me to suspect he inhaled his food too fast, however he's never done so before. He hasn't had any issues since, should I be worried?

Given that Niko hasn't had any further vomiting, I would watch him for now. You are correct that he could have eaten too fast leading to him vomiting. Should he start vomiting again, then I would have him seen by a vet. To help him slow down eating, you can get him a slow feeder bowl from a pet store, or you can divide his food equally into a 12 cup muffin tin. That will force him to slow down as he eats :-)
