My cat has worms and vomited. Vet's closed, what to do for both cats?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 years and 2 months old | 12 lbs

our 11 yr old cat just vomited and has worms (first time for us!), we have an additional 2 yr old cat. Our vet is of course closed now, my questions are: what do I need to be doing immediately (i.e., take to an emergency clinic or can it wait until Monday?) Should I clean both litter boxes (I assume yes), and if so use anything special to clean the boxes with Should I automatically assume the other cat has worms as well? I assume that there is medication I have to get from the vet,

You should treat both cats, monday should be fine, and repeat in 4weeks again. Cleaning litter trays is important with immediate disposal of feces to prevent reinfection. Medications effective against both round and tapeworms are recommended for full cover and are available from vets and reputable pet stores
