My cat is dying from liver failure, not eating. What are my options?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 years and 8 months old

My cat is dying. Dr said his liver is 90% failed and he has no hope that he will survive. Whitey hasn't eaten or drank anything since 1 month. Please tell me what should I do? I don't want to lose him :(

I am so sorry you have to go through this. It is so difficult to make these choices for our pets because we want them to be with us forever. Sometimes, we need to make a tough decision that will end their pain and suffering. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I am sorry to hear your news. Unfortunatley for Whitey there is no opportunity for him to recover if he will not eat and it is time to start considering euthanasia as he cannot continue in this way and it is unfair for him to suffer. Tube feeding and liver protectants are only a temporary solution but as his liver is beyond repair this would not bring about a cure
