Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. Continue feeding until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If the diarrhea doesn’t stop, see your veterinarian.

Since she is acting fine and not vomiting, you could monitor for 1 - 2 days and see if the diarrhea clears up with the chicken and rice. If not, she should be examind by your vet. She could havea parasite or infection and your vet can test a stool sample. You could also add a probiotic to her diet, like Fortiflora or Proviable, and see if that helps. If she starts vomiting or becomes lethargic than she should be examined by your vet. Hope Velvet feels better soon.

Poor Shadow. I can give you a home remedy to see if it helps. Withhold food for 6 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

It sounds like you are doing everything right at home. Whenever a dog is eating and drinking normally, we will recommend a bland easily digested diet for a few days (or until their stools have been normal for at least 24 hours), then a slow transition back to a normal diet over a few days. Diarrhea that continues for more than a few days, or is associated with blood in the stool, vomiting, lethargy or a poor appetite is a reason for a visit to your veterinarian. There are anti-diarrheal medications that your veterinarian can prescribe and they may also recommend a probiotic to help resolve the diarrhea. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that she feels better soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
