My rat keeps scratching his painful wound. How can I help him?

My rat has an injury that he has had before we got him. It is healing as there is pink skin around it, but he keeps scratching it and making it bleed, which is causing him a lot of pain. He often whines and squeaks in pain. What can I do to help him with the pain. Pet's info: Small Animal | Rat | Male | unneutered
