Why is my puppy scratching his belly so much, even when touched?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 10 days old | 4 lbs

Hey yall my pup has been itching at his belly a lot, he will stop walking to scratch stop playing eating etc. He has no skin issues it’s normal, no fleas or ticks or mites. He looks completely normal acts normal normal apitite normal peeing and pooping. I noticed anytime I touch his tummy he wants to scratch it, whether I pet it gently or a little rough anything touches his tummy and he wants to scratch. I have tried putting anti itch lotion for dogs as well.

For whatever reason puppies just tend to be itchier and scratch more often than adult dogs. If his skin looks 100% normal where he's been itchy it may not be anything to be concerned about. If you notice him scratching his ears, if there are red spots or hair loss on his belly, or if he seems so itchy that he isn't comfortable you may want to see your vet for an exam.
