Dog with hind leg weakness: home care, pain relief, and vet bill help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 81 lbs

My dog is a 3 year old Akita with probable neurology issues but no MRI due to funds. I want to know how to properly care for him while at home he is responsive eating urinating hasn’t passed a stool since Sunday 4/26/20 his back limbs don’t work right now but he reacts if I flick his knee or feel in between his toes. He is on gabapentin and prednisone what else can I give to help ease the pain. Is CBD an option. Are there any programs anything to help me pay his vet bills for treatment.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. Sorry to hear that Khan is having this issue. No, there isn't really anything else you can give him. CBD has not been studied enough in dogs to know the effective dose or if it will interact with other medications he is taking. I would not recommend that. What may be helpful is acupuncture. You should look into that. ( http://www.healingpawsri.com/ ) You can check this website to see if you can get any assistance with vet bills.
