My cat stopped vomiting but isn't eating normally. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 9 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

My cat was vomiting on Saturday. He frequently has hairballs so I didn't think much of it. He continued vomiting a few more times Saturday night/Sunday. The last time he vomited was Sunday around 2 pm. I had taken his food away because he was just throwing it up and I wanted his stomach to settle. Monday morning he ate, and he's been keeping everything down. He seems a little better, less lethargic, but he still isn't eating as much as he normally would. What could be going on?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Francipants. Poor boy. It could be he has a stomach illness. Try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!
