Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 13 years and 11 months old | 14 lbs
I believe my cat has chin acne. Can I do anything to treat her at home or should we head to the vet? She will be 14 in May and does have irritable bowel which flares up every now and then.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Mittens. Yes, it does look like she has feline acne. You should head to the vet to get it definitely diagnosed, and the vet can prescribe a medicated wash. At home, use glass or metal bowls for her food and water, as plastic ones hold bacteria and aggravate the acne. I'd see if you can get into a vet today or tomorrow. I hope this helps!

This could be feline acne. You do need to have Syphilis seen by a vet to get a medicated wash to clear it up. Also switch him to metal food and water bowels. Plastic ones can grow bacteria, causing the acne to be worse.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! I am so sorry about your other cat! I have never heard of feline chin acne being deadly, so I would have to assume there was something else going on with your other cat. I think because this is a repetitive issue with your cats you should see a Vet. It looks like chin acne but it could also be ringworm or mites. If changing his bowls to metal didn't help it could be a food allergy. Chicken is the most common protein allergen. Consider changing him to all fish or venison. I would recommend antibiotics if ringworm isn't cultured and he doesn't have mites. I would try the shampoo in the link provided locally on his chin 2-3 times per week to flush out the follicles as well. I hope this helps and I wish Rascal the best! http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=21564

It does look like feline acne, however this one may be caused by a bacterium that may need specific antibiotic treatment. Unfortunately there is no way to diagnose this over the internet and you will need to take your cat to a veterinarian for an exam and possibly a bacterial culture to determine which antibiotic is suitable to treat this. I suggest you make an appointment with your veterinarian for a hands-on exam.
