My dog has a red bump on his penis, licking it, and has ticks. What is it?

My dog, Muji, is a 7 year old Shihtzu. He currently has an inflammation or red bump on his penis right now. The surrounding fur has a little bit of blood on it too. He keeps licking and biting it. We are afraid this might be an infection. On top of that, he has ticks right now on his body. What do you think this is? Should I be worried? I can’t bring him to any vet right now because of the quarantine.

Hello. The sore very well could be from a tick bite. You need to purchase a good flea & tick shampoo & bathe him 1-2 times a week. If you can purchase any oral or topical flea & tick preventatives, I would be using these, too. Put an Elizabethan collar on Muji to prevent him from licking the sore & apply a triple antibiotic 2-3 times a day. If Muji begins to act at all unwell, please see your veterinarian as many ticks can carry some nasty diseases. Hopefully, Muji will be doing better soon & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
