Dog mom sick after giving birth: vomiting, diarrhea, not eating?

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | unspayed | 12 lbs

Mom had Puppies born 3 days ago, lethargic, diarrhea, vomiting . Refusing food and water.

It could be a sign of uterine infection, remnants of dead fetus within the uterus or mastitis. It still could be gastroenteritis, which is unrelated to the pregnancy and having puppies but I think it is less likely. You should take Sally to your local vets today, as there may be something serious going on. Another concern is that if she is not eating and drinking but feeding the puppies she will get dehydrated very quickly.

    No, this isn't normal behavior after have puppies. Roxy could be suffering from a postpartum disease such as metritis. I would have her seen by a vet immediately, and be sure to bring her puppies along with her.

    I’m sorry to hear about Loki. This is definitely not normal. I would want to make sure that Loki does not have an infection like mastitis or a retained puppy or uterine infection. I would take her to see her vet as soon as possible. Until then, no water until 3 hours after the last episode of vomiting. If she holds that down, she can have 1/4 Iof her normal sized meal 12 hours after the last episode of vomiting. Best of luck to you and Loki!
