My cat has loose stools, sensitive stomach, and a sore bottom. Help!

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

My cat has really sensitive DI and have been trying out expensive foods with cheap foods. Shes currently on Hills Science DI. Before she was on Purina Sensitive Stomach. She did better on that one. Her anus is very sore and swollen from so much wet stools. I dab her off so it wont hurt so bad. She tolerates me dabbing but meows in pain. I'm lost!! What other things can I do to stiffen up her poo? Metamucil? Help! And slightly bloated.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Sydney. Poor girl! Unfortunately I cannot recommend giving her Metamucil, it's illegal without seeing her in person. I would have her seen by a vet for this problem first thing in the morning. There may be medication the vet can prescribe to help make her poop more firm, such as probiotics. Best of luck.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Winnie is having soft stools, despite a bland diet. I recommend adding in a 1/2 teaspoon of Metamucil (original, unflavored) powder to her meals twice daily. This is an over-the-counter fiber supplement that can help bulk up stools. If the soft stool continues with these therapies, she should be seen by a veterinarian as a more serious problem could be present. Causes of soft stool include gastrointestinal parasites, liver disease, colitis, etc. I hope this is helpful!

My dog frequently doesn’t have very hard stools. Will Metamucil help her? She needs her anal glands done frequently.
Metamucil may help some but I would keep her dose very small like around 1 teaspoon twice a day. You could also try to just add a small amount of canned plain pumpkin instead of the Metamucil. I would also consider trying to add in a probiotic and a sensitive stomach diet. I like a few different types of probiotics - propectalin, vetriscience probiotic chews, purina pro plan fortiflora or proviable. If you decide to switch her food, I would transition her from the old food to the new food very slowly over a 2 weeks period. If you haven't had her examined by a vet I would strongly recommend to have her looked at. There are a lot of things that can also cause loose stools like parasites, food sensitivities, inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial infections, giardia, and much more. Your vet will start with checking a fecal sample. I hope this helps!

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Izumi! She is very cute. I do not recommend giving Metamucil to her. I can't say that it's safe to give her, and you have to be very careful giving human medications to young kittens, as you can accidentally do great harm. In addition, it may not be the right treatment for her diarrhea. For example, diarrhea in kittens can be caused by intestinal worms, which Metamucil will do nothing to help with treatment. You need to take her into a vet as soon as possible, as persistent diarrhea is dehydrating. The vet can diagnose what is causing her diarrhea and can treat her for it. Best of luck.

Cat with "soft" stool, what can I do to make it more solid? 3 cats in house, all eat same diet, only one has soft (but not watery and no blood or mucus) stools all the time.
If Simba is having no other symptoms other than soft stool you may want to consider adding fiber to his diet. There are some commercial diets that have increased fiber content (senior diets are typically higher in fiber). Another option would be to simply add a tablespoon of fiber powder (like Metamucil) to his food once a day. If this does not help then you may want to consider bringing a stool sample to your vet to be checked to ensure nothing else is going on. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be due to the medication that Minu was on though it is hard to know without knowing which medication she was on. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. My cat has always had diarrhoea due to a sensitive stomach but today I noticed she had a blood clot in one of her stools and in another she had quite a lot of blood which was bright red. she doesn't seem to be in any pain
HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Mars! Blood in the stool usually indicates inflammation. It is likely part of her underlying intestinal condition. Usually when there is blood I like to start them on an antibiotic like metronidazole. Try giving your vet a call. Good luck!

My understanding of your question os taht you are concerned about your cat having loose bowel movements, her stool is loose like she has some mild diarrhea. Am I understanding you correctly? If so, then you can try adding a probiotic; there are some good ones formulated for cats. Ideally, take Chikoo to a veterinarian. If your vet diagnoses Giardia or an overgrowith of bacteria, often the medication metronidazole is prescribed. Metronidazole is not labeled for use in animals, though it has been used safely and effectively. However, if this continues, I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and possible treatment. There is a chance this will improve on its own. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Galaxy! I recommend cisapride, lactulose and Royal canine fiber response for constipated cats. Sometimes with the prescription diet it eliminates the need for most medications. If she isn't eating I would have her seen today and deobstipated (sedate and remove all feces) before the weekend. Then get the cisaride and food started. Sometimes refractory cases need partial removal of their colons. I wish you the best!
