My puppy has ringworm. How to soothe his itching and biting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 22 days old | 10 lbs

Hi, my newly adopted rescue puppy was diagnosed with probable ringworm. I was told to use lime sulphur dips weekly, 4 weeks in a row. Is there anything else I can apply or give him to make him more comfortable bc he seems to bite his tail, limbs and gluteal fold areas often. He is about 3.5 months old chi//daschund mutt.

Hello. You need to be very careful giving a puppy anything for itching. Unfortunately, anti-histamines rarely work in dogs. The lime sulfur dips will get rid of the ringworm, so as soon as you start these, he will be more comfortable. Make sure the water temp is cool, as this is the most soothing to itchy, irritated skin. If the ringworm is not too bad, usually you can cure them with the lime sulfur dips within a couple of weeks. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
