My dog has a painless growth under his tooth. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 11 months old | 70 lbs

Hi, my dog has got this below his tooth. This has persisted for the last month or two. It is not tender or he doesnt seem to be any pain. Its only visible when his lip is pulled down. That the reason for the delay in my noticing. What should I do?

This looks like it might be a small area of gingival hyperplasia or a small epulis, which is a growth of the gum tissue. It might also be a wound or draining tract from a tooth abscess - it's a little difficult to tell whether this lesion is raised or flat in your picture. I think you could probably monitor it if Baxter is acting like his normal self - if it has not resolved in three weeks or if it seems to be getting larger I'd recommend having a vet take a look.
