Why is my cat struggling to walk and falling after her spay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 years and 9 months old

My cat came to me after falling off a telephone pole as a kitten. Some trees broke her fall, but she was fine; no injuries at all. She was a normal cat until I got her spayed. After the surgery, she began developing improper balance and coordination. It has deteriorated over time, to the point where she struggles to walk and falls a lot. She also had a seizure. Is it cerebellar hypoplasia? Did the vet mess up during her spay, or would it be a delayed effect of falling when she was a kitten?

I would say it would be abnormal to be cebellar hypoplasia because she was once normal. There is obviously something serious going on with her brain to cause her to be have these issues. They can be caused by an inflammatory, metabolic, or infectious issue. I would have her assessed by a neurologist to discuss what may be going on and treatment options.
