My French Bulldog has green sticky eye boogers. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 22 lbs

Hi My dog recently in the past week started getting eye boogers or mucus and I’m not sure if that’s healthy since i know french bulldogs are more prone to health issues. If you could let me know if it’s okay that’d be great. In the picture I already cleaned them out but they’re little balls that are green yellowish and they’ve sticky like mucus.

Hello! In this image, Lucky does not seem to be having any trouble with his eyes. I know you just cleaned them, but they do not look overly irritated or inflamed. Ocular discharge can happen for a variety of reasons including infection, allergies, decreased tear productions, injury, etc. I would continue to monitor him and if you start to see any signs of rubbing his eyes, excessive discharge, or discomfort, call your veterinarian.

It sounds like Lucky could have an eye infection. Any eye problem has to be checked out by a vet promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take him into a vet today get this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
