My Pit Bull has spots on her coat. Could it be a skin infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 50 lbs

My one year old Pitty has developed spots on her coat on both her sides. There is no irritation to the skin as far as I can tell. They showed about 2 weeks ago. I thought she rolled in something but I gave her a bath last night and they are still there. I am in Illinois and it is impossible to get into the vet right now due to Covid. I am concerned it is a yeast infection of some sort? Please advise? All behavior is the same and only change has been good from Purina to Docs Choice

Hello. Ava may have a bit of a staph infection in her skin. I recommend using an antibacterial shampoo called KetoChlor Medicated shampoo made by Virbac. When you use this, you should lather her up & leave the shampoo on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing. Repeat twice a week for the next 4-6 weeks. Most of the big pet retailers will carry this, but you can also find it on Amazon & Chewy.com. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
