My dog had diarrhea, now constipated & not drinking. When to see vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | BullBoxer | Female | 2 years and 11 months old | 50 lbs

Two days ago Frankie had diarrhea the two times she went potty... Once while on a walk and once an accident in the house (she never has accidents otherwise).. Since then, we've been feeding her nothing but boiled rice and chicken. I don't think in the day and a half since her diarrhea that she's had a bowel movement, and she hasn't drank water. This morning she acted like she was going to throw up, producing nothing. Energy is normal but her nose is pretty dry.

Poor girl. I think at this point (>24 hrs of being ill) because she isn't getting any better you should consider taking her in to your vet. This may just still be a really upset stomach, but she needs to see your vet and have her vitals and physical exam done to determine if she should have further testing done to look for other possible causes (i.e. liver, kidney disease) for her illness. We want to make sure she is giong to be ok and can recover quickly from this, so its best to get her seen. I hope that Frankie's condition improves soon! Best of luck and take care.
