Hi Trixie has been on Leukeran and prednisolone therapy for one year for small cell lymphoma. She has had quarterly checkups and ultrasounds with the oncologist and is doing very well. now the doc is telling me that it’s my choice to either stop Leukeran now or continue for 12 more weeks. Any advice?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear that Trixie has this issue :( It is very difficult to give much of an opinion about this without having the entire medical history, but in general, I would say that if she has been doing very well so far with no set backs, you could stop the Leukeran and just continue with the prednisolone. Hope this helps. If you have more questions you can always opt for a private consultation where we can chat back and forth. That way you can ask as many questions as you'd like. Best wishes!

That's fantastic that Trixie has been doing so well with her chemotherapy. I certainly think the risk vs benefits of continuing chemotherapy is an educated discussion you need to have with your oncologist. The biggest concern associated with chlorambucil is the risk of bone marrow suppression. If Trixie is doing well and not having any adverse side effects, I would ask your oncologist is there is much risk in continuing the medication. I would also ask if, at this point, the chemotherapy is buying more time than prednisone alone. This will help you make the decision whether or not it is right to continue.
