Why is my spayed cat growling and meowing with toys after her spay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

Hello! My cat was recently spayed in February. Since the spay she has developed 2 new habits. The first habit is growling at the door or window when people pass by. The second habit is walking around with a toy in her mouth meowing loudly until we give her attention. We play with her and give her a lot of attention throughout the day. Otherwise, her behavior is normal, loving, and playful. Should I be concerned? Thank you!

No, I would not be worried. That toy may be Lucy's favorite, which is why she is carrying it around and she wants you to play with her and it. She may also be acting a little territorial when people walk by. If she isn't being aggressive, I would not worry.
